The American Water Ski Association’s International Activities Committee has announced the selection of two water ski teams – Under 13 and Under 17 – that will represent the United States at the 6th Can Am Challenge, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, at Lake of Dreams in Jerseyville, Ill. The event features athletes from the United States and Canada competing for team titles only. The AWSA IAC chose the teams based upon a pre-approved selection criteria.
Athletes selected to the Under 13 Can Am Water Ski Team were: Kristen Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.), Lauren Boskus (Elkins, Ark.), Bailey Grathwohl (McQueeney, Texas), Taylor Grathwohl (McQueeney, Texas), Garrett Stallings (Rossville, Tenn.) and Griffin Stange (Sherman, Texas).
Athletes selected to the Under 17 Can Am Water Ski Team were: Bailey Austin (Buda, Texas), Brooke Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.), Chris DeVito (San Diego, Calif.), Anna Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.), Abbi Grathwohl (McQueeney, Texas) and Corbin Guyer (Pierson, Fla.). Zach Montavon (Dixon, Ill.) and Julianna Boskus (Elkins, Ark.) were selected as alternates.
Cris Kodiak (Chicago, Ill.) and Marc Shaw (Ocoee, Fla.) will serve as the team managers/coaches.
The United States has won the Under 13 and Under 17 team titles at the past three Can Am Challenge events.
The American Water Ski Association is one of nine sport division organizations of USA Water Ski. USA Water Ski was formed in 1939 as a non-profit organization promoting water skiing in the United States. USA Water Ski is affiliated with the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (world governing body) and is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and Pan-American Sports Organization as the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States.
