The Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) is proud to announce a new operations and development partnership with the Village of New Lenox, Illinois, which held a groundbreaking ceremony for its destination sports development, Crossroads Sports Complex, on Monday, April 22. With a strategic location offering easy access via Interstates I-80 and I-355, this new sporting hub is expected to service the local population of roughly 30,000, alongside an additional 582,000 people residing within a 20-minute drive.
“The partnership with the Sports Facilities Companies gives us the confidence that the complex will be designed as a premier travel sports property with a great guest and tournament experience,” said Village of New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann. “The groundbreaking is just the beginning of great things to come for the Village.”
The sports complex, originally announced in spring 2023, will occupy a 100-acre parcel of land adjacent to Silver Cross Hospital, a nationally ranked healthcare facility. Alongside the facility, over 10 acres of this prime real estate will be reserved for additional development opportunities, such as restaurants, retail stores, and hotels. North of Silver Cross Hospital, nearly 68 acres of additional land has been designated for further development.
Promising to redefine the local sports scene, the complex will include 29 youth baseball or softball fields, 12 soccer/multi-use fields, a welcome center, a beer garden, and concession stands. These facilities are projected to be ready for tournaments by spring 2025. Phase two includes the addition of an indoor fieldhouse.
“The Village has been a great partner from the get-go, and their team has an intentional and purposeful vision for Crossroads,” said Jacob Whittaker, Senior Vice President for SFC. We’ve collaborated with JLG architects to create a versatile design that will maximize the complex's impact. This design is in great hands with Northern Builders, who will be bringing the project out of the ground from a construction perspective.”
Upon completion, the sports complex is set to make a significant economic contribution, with a predicted $12 million of economic impact in year 1, growing to $20 million by year 3. The venue is expected to attract over 495,000 visitors annually. Once completed, over 600,000 visitors are expected to visit the complex annually, with an expected annual economic impact of over $30 million.
