The Naperville City Council last night approved the plan presented by Calamos Real Estate LLC for DuPage County’s largest multi-use, indoor ice, sports, entertainment and expo facility along Ferry Road east of Route 59. The 25-acre site known as CityGate North, acquired by Calamos this spring, received the unanimous endorsement of the Naperville Zoning Commission last month.
During last night’s City Council meeting, Calamos Real Estate SVP Ken Witkowski addressed questions raised about traffic and noise, particularly as it might affect residents of Monarch Landing, a retirement community just west of CityGate North.
“With the exception of 140 VIP spots on the west side of the building all parking is east on the east end of the property so, in addition to fencing and landscaping, the building itself will work as a sound barrier,” he said.
Plans also include a walking path and picnic grove that will be available to local residents.
“We want to be an amenity to Naperville and for our neighbors residing at Monarch Landing,” he added.
Next steps for the estimated $60.2 million facility include finalizing remaining engineering components and obtaining building permits to meet its fall 2020 occupancy target.
A projected 500 jobs in construction and 100 full- and part-time ongoing operations positions will be created by the project.
