Golf, Cycling and More Coming to DuPage County

May 31, 2024

No other destination can claim its importance to the history of golf quite like DuPage County. DuPage is home to the first 18-hole golf course in the United States and three of the greatest American golf courses at Butler National Golf Club, Chicago Golf Club, and Medinah Country Club. With more than 50 courses for the novice to the professional golfer, DuPage County is a premier destination to train, play, and watch this game of tradition.

With the popularity of golf again on the rise, all eyes are on Presidents Cup which will be played later this year at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, followed by Medinah Country Club in DuPage County in 2026. With the United States versus the World (minus Europe) and no money on the line, Presidents Cup is one of the most important and exclusive professional golf team events in the world, also known for its display of camaraderie and super fans.

As the DuPage Sports Commission prepares to welcome international visitors to DuPage in 2026, every effort is being put forth to draw attention to this major event, from collaborations locally to sales initiatives in the international market.

In celebration of National Women’s Golf Day on June 4, DSC is proud to join LEXGOLF (Latina Executive Golf Organization) and Golf Americas in hosting a day of golf at Willow Crest Golf Club at Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center. This event is an excellent opportunity for golfers of all levels to connect with like-minded women, participate in a golf clinic, and enjoy a 9-hole game. The event is open to the public, registration details can be found here.

Buyers and suppliers come together at the Mountain Grand Lodge & Spa in Boyne Falls, Michigan on June 17 – 19, 2024 for The North America Golf Tourism Convention (NAC) put on by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO). IAGTO’s membership consists of 667 specialist golf tour operators in 69 countries, plus golf resorts and golf courses, airlines, tourist boards, and media and business partners in 95 countries. DSC and the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau will be in attendance promoting DuPage County to target audiences.

We also celebrate the up-and-coming golfers playing in the Western Golf Association amateur championships, sure to offer fans thrilling moments as in years past. Hinsdale Golf Club will host the WGA 97th Women’s Western Junior Championship on June 10 – 14, 2024. A week later, Ruth Lake Country Club in Hinsdale will host the 106th Men’s Western Junior kicking off on June 17, 2024. A significant pool of international players compete in the WGA events here in United States, with players from Sweden, South Korea, Canada, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Australia, Mexico, China, and more.

Of course, golf isn’t the only action going on in DuPage this summer. Here for the first time from July 11 – 14, 2024, will be the USA Swimming Speedo Sectionals at FMC Natatorium at Ty Warner Park in Westmont. This event offers elite-level racing opportunities outside of the collegiate circuit. With more than 600 athletes participating from across the nation, this event showcases the pinnacle of domestic swimming talent. Watch the action live – tickets can be purchased here.

In DuPage, can’t talk summer without a mention of cycling! Chicago Grit, formerly known as Intelligentsia Cup, remains the largest competitive road cycling event in America, and we are proud to be a part of it. DuPage plays a big role in Chicago Grit, with three criterium races in DuPage County: the Ray Whalen Builders Tour of Lake Ellyn (July 20), the Winfield Criterium & Summerfest (July 21), and the Lombard Cycling Classic (July 23) — forming the “DuPage Triple Crown.” Launched in 2019 by DSC, the DuPage Triple Crown offers another layer of fun and excitement for riders and spectators.

Thank you to the Village of Lombard for once again partnering with us to host the Lombard Cycling Classic. The Lombard Cycling Classic is truly a family affair — bring the kids and spend the day watching the racing, visiting the expo area, and enjoying the community spirit. Register the whole family for the Kids & Family Community Ride which has become a local favorite. With 200 participants last year and a greater number anticipated this year, we are excited to announce the ride time is being extended in length for even more fun. You can find more information and the registration link here. I look forward to seeing you at the races.
