The Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival returns to Arlington Heights on July 29 for another year of racing, sport and community.
For five years, Lake Arlington has hosted the event that’s been recognized as the Best Single-Sport Event by SportsTravel Awards. The festival will feature thirty dragon boat teams from the Midwest region. Everyone in the community is welcome to come cheer on the teams and discover the magic of 22 hearts beating as one.
The weekend’s festivities are an opportunity to immerse the community in the culture and spirit of dragon boat racing, which dates back 2,500 years to ancient China. Beyond the water competition, festivalgoers can enjoy festival staples such as the Vendor Village, Kids Zone and Food Truck Bazaar. Ascene Chicago is presenting the Asian Cultural Village with multicultural performances, musical acts, workshops and demonstrations throughout the day.
The Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival benefits a local charity, Adaptive Adventures. Funds raised through the event will help to provide progressive outdoor sports opportunities to improve quality of life for children, adults and wounded veterans with physical disabilities. The Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival is located on Lake Arlington. All the action takes place at Flentie Park, from 9AM-3PM. Festivities are free and open to the public. More information on the event can be found at www.gwndragonboat.com/chicago. For more information, call 1-855-496-2628.
