Springfield, IL, Announces Hosting of College Basketball

Prairie Capital Convention Center to Be Home Court for Five Games of Illini Basketball Next Season

The University of Illinois has announced that the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois will host five Fighting Illini men’s basketball games in November, 2015.

The Springfield schedule will include a November 8, 2015 exhibition game, the regular-season opener on November 13, and games on November 15, 21 and 23, 2015.

“Hosting the University of Illinois basketball team for five games next season is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Prairie Capital Convention Center and the City of Springfield. We are excited to have the Illini team on our court, and showcase our facility to all of the fans who will be attending,” said Brian Oaks, Prairie Capital Convention Center general manager.

The Prairie Capital Convention Center has recently undergone a $15 million dollar renovation including new lighting, wall coverings, carpet and furnishings, state-of-the-art audio visual services, an expanded lobby, upgraded loading docks, the addition of first-floor bathrooms, a food court, an outdoor plaza and a new façade on the parking ramp.

Springfield boasts world-class historic sites and attractions including the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Dana-Thomas House and many more. The city has over 4,000 hotel rooms, an interesting local culinary scene, and plenty of recreational opportunities for visitors.
