The Ski Broncs local water ski show team will host the 2013 National Show Ski Association (NSSA) Division 1 National Water Ski Show Tournament in Loves Park. The tournament, featuring team and individual competitions, takes place August 9-11 along the Rock River at Shorewood Park.
Highlighting one of the region’s most valuable assets, this free event will bring an estimated 8,400 visitors, fans, competitors and judges to the area and generate over $200,000 for local retailers, restaurants and hotels over the three day period.
Show skiing combines elements of all water ski disciplines and typically features several acts choreographed to music and built around a theme that tells a story. In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution.
“Much like the art of water ski shows, Rockford is always pleased to feature our award winning parks and recreational facilities. We look forward to continuing our tradition of first class hospitality and trust that visitors will be as impressed with the city as they are with the showmanship of the competition,” said John Groh, president and CEO of the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Individual competitions kick off on Friday, August 9th at 10:00 a.m. Athletes will compete in the following categories: Swivel, Strap, Doubles, Team Jump and Freestyle Jump.
On Saturday, August 10th, team competitions begin with the first team hitting the water at approximately 7:50 a.m. The Ski Broncs, one of 14 teams competing, will perform last on Sunday, August 11 around 3:20 p.m.
Ski Broncs Promotions Director Jackie Baxter stated, “The Loves Park Ski Broncs are looking forward to hosting Nationals August 9, 10, and 11 and hope our home crowd comes to cheer us on about 3:00 Sunday when we compete against the Nation's best water ski show teams. Free!”
The team competition will be available for viewing via a live Webcast at www.USAWATERSKI.org on Saturday and Sunday.
