The excitement of wakesports is coming to Rockford! The city has been selected as one of only three destinations nationwide to host a Malibu Boats WWA Regional Championship. Other host cities are Colorado Springs, Colo. and Winter Haven, Fla. In Rockford, competition will take place between June 21-23.

Organized by the World Wake Association (WWA) and hosted by the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (RACVB) in partnership with national sponsor Malibu Boats, this event promises three days filled with thrilling competition across seven exhilarating disciplines: Wakeboard, Wakeskate, Skim, Surf, Foil, Features and Traditional Wake Park.

The event will take place at two locations: West Rock Wake Park at Levings Park and on the scenic Rock River, between the Auburn St. and Whitman St. bridges - offering spectators an ideal viewing experience from the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens campus and the Rock River Recreation Path. The event is projected to bring in over 400 competitors staying in hotels each night with an estimated economic impact of close to $500,000.

"Our selection as a host city for the 2024 Malibu Boats WWA Central Regional Championships is a testament to our city, the hard work and dedication of our team at RACVB, and Dan Jarrett and West Rock Wake Park’s dedication to promoting and growing this sport," said John Groh, RACVB president/CEO. "We are thrilled to bring the excitement of wakesports at this level to Rockford for the first time, showcasing our city as a premier destination for outdoor recreation.”

“The news of the WWA and GoRockford teaming up to bring a regional boat and cable event here is incredible for wakeboarding and for our city,” said Dan Jarrett, West Rock Wake Park owner. “It is my hope that many current and future Rockford athletes will fall in love with a sport they never imagined because of exposure to events like this, and maybe one day they’ll compete here for a title.”

Spectators can attend the event for free and witness the action unfold as riders of all ages and skill levels compete for qualification to the Nationals. Malibu Boats will send its professional wakesports team members to judge the event, adding an extra layer of expertise and excitement to the competition.
