Carmel Marathon Secures Approval for Dates Through 2021

Carmel-based Carmel Road Racing Group (CRRG Events) announced it has secured event dates for the running of the Carmel Marathon through 2021. The 2018 date change, which moved the event to Spring Break weekend, produced multiple benefits including less traffic congestion from residents being out of town and increasing economic impact during a typically slow week for retailers. During the September meeting, the Board of Public Works and Safety reviewed and approved the future dates of Saturday, March 30, 2019; Saturday, April 4, 2020; and Saturday, April 3, 2021. This schedule takes the Carmel Marathon, the second largest marathon in the state of Indiana and a top 75 marathon in the United States, through its 10^th anniversary in 2020.

In 2018, race organizers moved the Carmel Marathon Weekend, which includes a marathon, half marathon, the Indiana Spine Group 8K and the Indiana Members Credit Union 5K, to an earlier date at the end of March. The move made the Carmel Marathon one of the first major Midwest marathons of the spring, offering runners cooler temperatures and ample time to recover for a second springtime race. The 2019 event will offer another change as the Indiana Spine Group 8K becomes the Indiana Spine Group 10K, a popular race distance that is making a comeback nationally. 

Last year’s Carmel Marathon saw a record number of participants, with runners joining the field from 42 states and five countries. The event has seen a steady increase in participants since its inception and race organizers expect to see its numbers and attraction among runners continue to rise.
