The AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk and the Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) are excited to announce the grand opening of the first phase of the highly-anticipated new facility on Saturday, October 26. In collaboration with The Price Brothers, celebrated architects, and dedicated construction teams, the grand vision that is AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk has been passionately brought to life, where 3.8 million annual visitors are expected to enjoy athletic and recreation excellence that will position Overland Park as the ultimate sports and entertainment destination.
The grand opening event will mark the completion of the first phase of construction, opening 260,000 square feet of the entire 420,000-square-foot multi-sport and recreation complex. Plans for the facility include an NHL-regulated-sized ice rink, 8 basketball courts (convertible to 16 volleyball/pickleball courts), a 40,000-square-foot turf field, locker rooms, a training area, a café, a bar/grill, and more. The family entertainment center will be home to arcade games, bowling, laser tag, an Esports center, sports simulators, and a roll glider.
After AdventHealth purchased the land from The Price Brothers in 2013, Bluhawk broke new ground with a vision of a best-in-the-league sports park coexisting with a lifestyle center. While the sports facility attracts national and super-regional traffic for tournaments and events, the Bluhawk District also invites families to join a comprehensive, vibrant, live-work-play community with multifamily homes, office space, and healthcare facilities woven into the overall development. The facility is anchored by The Boundary, the district’s entertainment zone, that includes walkable retail, dining, lodging, a movie theater, green spaces, and more. By driving economic growth, enhancing the quality of life for residents, and promoting the region, the AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk is set to be a dynamic asset that will enrich the community and region in exciting ways.
From 10 am-2 pm, visitors are promised an unforgettable experience as they take a first look at the first phase of the sports complex, plus get an exclusive sneak peek of the newly unveiled plans for its phase two additions and the remainder of the Bluhawk District. Attendees will receive a gift bag on entry (while supplies last) and have the opportunity to open skate, as well as watch ice hockey and figure skating demonstrations, sample food from the café and restaurant, experience the arcade arena, play on the turf and courts, and enter an exciting sweepstakes. The event is free and open to the public.
"We are thrilled to be a part of this cutting-edge sports facility for Overland Park, a testament to our commitment to enhancing community engagement and promoting healthy lifestyles nationwide through sport,” said SFC Vice President of Venue Management Patrick O’Brien. “This state-of-the-art venue not only offers unparalleled opportunities for sports enthusiasts and local events but also plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth and fostering a vibrant, active community. We look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have for years to come."
To officially celebrate the inauguration of the state-of-the-art sports facility, a VIP ribbon-cutting ceremony is to be held on October 25 with inspiring speeches delivered by distinguished personalities, including The Price Brothers’ President and Vice President Kent Price and Bart Lowen, respectively, Lieutenant Governor David Toland, Mayor Carl Skoog of Overland Park, SFC Senior Vice President of Development Services Jake Whittaker, and representatives from AdventHealth.
