The Maine Sports Commission is pleased to announce that Sabattus, Maine, has been chosen as the tournament location for the 2016 Professional Disc Golf Association United States Women's Disc Golf Championship. The tournament will be held from Sept. 23-25, 2016.
The USWDGC will be held at the Sabattus Disc Golf Complex, one of the rising stars of the many disc golf complexes across the country. The Northeast is a region of the United States that has not seen a PDGA major tournament to date. The tournament is presented by the PDGA, which sanctions well over 2,000 tournaments in 49 states and 27 countries each year, for both professional and amateur disc golfers.
"The PDGA is very pleased to come to the Sabattus area for the 2016 USWDGC," PDGA Executive Director Brian Graham stated. "The crew at Sabattus has been working very hard to embody the principles employed by the PDGA and we are excited and confident in their ability to host an outstanding major event."
Disc golf is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. The sport is played using the same rules as traditional golf, but utilizes a high-tech flying disc as the golf ball and a standardized target as the hole. Disc golfers carry a bag of ten to 15 discs, each with their own flight characteristics, and they can be thrown as far as 500' with incredible accuracy.
