The Maine Sports Commission is holding The Business of Sports Symposium with keynote speaker Larry Lucchino on Thursday, April 16, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine.
The symposium will focus on the role sporting events can have in growing Maine's four-season economy. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from industry leaders, including keynote speaker Boston Red Sox President Larry Lucchino. He will be discussing the state of Red Sox Nation in Maine and how the Red Sox and their affiliate Portland Sea Dogs team can help drive Maine's economy.
There will also be two panel discussions led by well-known sports broadcaster Lee Goldberg. The first panel will discuss the economic impact to Maine from the business of sports. It will feature panelists Bill Baker, who was the driving force behind bringing Tough Mudder to Westbrook, an event that brought in $5 million to Westbrook and surrounding communities; Brian Corcoran, president of Shamrock Sports Group and the driving force behind bringing the PBA Maine Event and ESPN coverage to the state; and Andy Shepard from the Maine Winter Sports Center.
The second panel is titled "Brands Fueled by the Power of Sports Partnerships" and will feature panelists Michael Bourque, senior vice president at MEMIC, which sponsors Gillette Stadium and numerous Maine teams and events; and Larry Wold, Maine president of TD Bank, which serves as title sponsor of the TD Beach To Beacon 10K. Each panel will provide insight on the sports business landscape as it stands today and its future in the state of Maine.
