KidSport Winnipeg and Desiree Scott, 2016 & 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist and Pro Soccer Player with The Utah Royals and member of the Canadian Women's National Team, announced the fourth annual soccer camp in support of KidSport taking place Saturday October 27 and Sunday October 28, 2018 at the Axworthy Health & RecPlex at the University of Winnipeg.
“We are back for a fourth year and I have to say coming home and doing this event is something I truly look forward to," said Scott. “It gives me the opportunity to work hands-on in the community with the kids who are so excited about our Women’s Team, and allows me to share what’s coming next for me and Team Canada, and hopefully inspires them to go after their dreams! As always with this camp I want all the participants to have an absolute blast while getting to experience a fun day of high-performance training. This is an annual camp that I want to continue doing every year and that the kids of Winnipeg have shown a lot of interest in. Teaming up with KidSport Winnipeg and giving back is so very important to me and I look forward to seeing not only the new faces but the returning ones as well. It’s going to be fun!"
Scott, along with some of Manitoba's top players and coaches will take kids through soccer-specific speed and agility training, fundamental drills, and ball familiarity exercises. Along with the technical side of the game, the camp is also about having as much fun as possible while learning other important skills such as teamwork, leadership, dedication, self-confidence, and how hard work pays off.
The camp is for girls aged 8-18 years old. Registration is open to the public.
Community-sponsored girls who have been funded by KidSport Winnipeg to play soccer in 2018 will also be in attendance.
“Desiree Scott is a true, homegrown Winnipeg soccer super-star. As a KidSport kid herself as a youngster, Desiree understands better than most, the role KidSport plays in helping to get kids off the sidelines and into the game,” said Rick McGregor, KidSport Winnipeg co-chair. “With her soccer camp, she pays it forward, showing young girls who attend her camp, the hard work, dedication, perseverance, and teamwork required to succeed in both sports and life. Desiree is a true inspiration for Winnipeg’s youth and her dedication and desire to give back to the community, with her infectious personality and energy at her camp inspires a new generation of future stars. KidSport Winnipeg is extremely proud to have both Desiree and the Sexton Group on our team!”
