The Next Collegiate League (NCL) is excited to announce our first-ever “NCL Summer Skills Camp”, dedicated to fostering the development of lacrosse athletes and strengthening the surrounding community. This event will take place on July 26th - 27th at the Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland. It is open to all NCL athletes and interested participants from NCL-affiliated schools.
The NCL Summer Skills Camp offers athletes from participating NCL schools a unique opportunity for improvement under the guidance of experienced NCL coaches. It will also feature multiple guest speakers who will impart further knowledge to the participating athletes. The camp will help participants maintain training in the off-season in preparation for Year 4 of the NCL.
“I am truly honored and excited to coach this NCL skills camp. There’s so much great talent that I see coaching all season, and I’m just excited to have the opportunity to give the athletes some knowledge that I have from my time as a player and coach. I hope to see them grow from a player to a coach, a leader, and an ambassador to move the game forward” said Brandon Gilman, Delaware State Head Coach.
The NCL Summer Skills Camp will also provide a chance for promising athletes to interact with NCL schools. This is a valuable opportunity for players to showcase their abilities and for programs to identify potential recruits.
Key features of the NCL Summer Skills Camp include:
- Skill Development: Focused training sessions led by NCL coaches to help athletes improve their techniques and understanding of game strategies. Training will feature skills clinic instruction such as defense, odd man situations, position work, shooting, and more.
- Recruitment Opportunities: Local collegiate programs will set up booths, providing athletes with the chance to be noticed and recruited.
- Community Building: An environment that encourages connection and camaraderie among athletes, coaches, and college representatives.
- Daily Scrimmages: Athletes will participate in scrimmages each day to apply their skills in game-like situations.
The camp will culminate in the NCL's first-ever All-Star game, featuring the top NCL players from NCL Year 3. This exciting event will cap off the weekend, showcasing the talent and hard work of the league’s best athletes.
The NCL Summer Skills Camp underscores our dedication to athlete development, community engagement, and the growth of lacrosse at the collegiate level.
