The Meijer State Games of Michigan released details today that synchronized swimming and triathlon will be added to the upcoming 2014 Summer Games. Also, softball has been expanded to include a co-ed division. With the new additions, the Summer Games will offer 40 sports and are expected to host over 7,000 athletes.
The fifth annual Summer Games will take place June 20-22, 2014 in Grand Rapids. Summer Games online registration is now open for most sports. For complete registration information, visit http://stategamesofmichigan.com/SGregistration and click on an individual sport.

Synchronized Swimming: East Kentwood High School, 6230 Kalamazoo Ave. S.E., Kentwood, MI 49508
Triathlon: Riverside Park, 2001 Monroe Ave. N.W., Grand Rapids, MI 49501
Synchronized swimming will be featuring a trio, duet, solo, team, and combination routines. The event will also be sanctioned by USA Synchro, the national governing body of synchronized swimming. Triathlon will be held at Riverside Park. The race will be hosted by Left Brain Events. Divisions will be men and women age groups ranging from 15-75 years old and over. Online registration will be $100 until June 10 and $125 from June 11-19. The triathlon will be USA Triathlon sanctioned.
“I’ve been discussing adding triathlon to the Meijer State Games for a few years now,” said Jim Conner, Race Director for Triathlon. “After careful planning, triathlon will be happening this summer in Riverside Park as part of the Summer Games.”
The 2014 Meijer State Games of Michigan Summer Games Opening Ceremonies will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 7 P.M. at Fifth Third Ballpark (4500 West River Dr. NE, Plainfield Township, MI 49321). The ceremony features an athlete village, parade of athletes, pyrotechnics, and the lighting of the cauldron. There will also be an athlete village and an Olympic Day event.
