The IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan triathlon will return to Northern Michigan and the city of Frankfort on Sunday, September 15, 2024. General registration for the 2024 IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan triathlon is now open.
In December 2020, IRONMAN confirmed Frankfort in Michigan, as the new multi-year host venue for the IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan event, relocating from the original Traverse City location.
“Athletes have continued to flock to Northern Michigan to compete in this popular IRONMAN 70.3 event,” said Eric Atnip, Regional Director for The IRONMAN Group.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Traverse City Tourism to showcase this unique Midwestern destination to athletes from around the globe and look forward to returning to race in Frankfort in 2024.”
Trevor Tkach (Tah-koch), President of Traverse City Tourism, said “We continue to see overwhelming support from the community. Whether it’s volunteers, safety teams, or just folks who come out to cheer the athletes there is tremendous enthusiasm.”
The IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan triathlon swim start and finish are located next to the transition area on Betsie Bay which hosts the 1.2-mile swim. Once out of the water, athletes embark on a 56-bike ride that travels along highway M-22 and surrounding roads in Benzie County.
To cap off the event, a 13.1-mile run is made up of two out and back loops on paved trails and roads around Betsie Bay.
In 2022, IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan ranked high in the IRONMAN 70.3 Athletes’ Choice Awards. The event was voted Best Race Venue, 2nd Best Overall Race, 2nd Best Bike Course and 4th Best Finish Line.
Results for the North American regional 2022 Athlete Choice Awards were gathered from post event surveys sent to all athletes who competed in an IRONMAN 70.3 North America Series event.
