Some changes have been made this year, officials announced. Current and former US Military, Police, Fire, and EMT members will be eligible to compete for US OPEN titles in Men’s and Women’s Open/A or B/C singles divisions. Players competing in these divisions will be guaranteed two matches.
“We are thrilled to honor America’s true heroes with the opportunity to compete in the UnitedHealthcare US OPEN Racquetball Championships” stated Championship Director Doug Ganim. “To further recognize these patriots, the US OPEN will provide a FREE weeklong Ticket Package to watch all the pro matches to each Heroes division participant, a $139 value,” Ganim explained.
Players eligible to compete in the HEROES divisions can enter on-line or via mail and provide proof of eligibility at registration on-site.
The 2015 USA Racquetball Championship will be officially co-sanctioned by the IRF along with the IRT and the LPRT. All players competing in the US OPEN will receive IRF ranking points for each match won and the UnitedHealthcare US OPEN will be listed as an official global major event on the IRF calendar.
“The UnitedHealthcare US OPEN has always enjoyed great support from players from throughout the world. This new partnership with the IRF solidifies the US OPEN as the premier international racquetball competition open to all players of every skill and age,” US OPEN Director Doug Ganim explained. “Our vision for the US OPEN has always been to bring together ALL facets of the sport for an annual racquetball celebration. Having the IRF officially involved is a critical component to achieve this mission.
“We are thrilled to formalize this relationship with the US OPEN!” explained IRF President Osvaldo Maggi. “By officially sanctioning the event some international players will now have access to funding from their home country National Governing Body. In addition, our long-term goal with the US OPEN is to develop a true World Cup style country competition at the event. We will be working to develop a points system that will make this a reality in the years to come,” Maggi stated.
