Big Sky Resort to Host Annual Shedhorn Ski Mountaineering Race

Top Ski Mountaineering (Ski Mo) athletes will compete on Lone Mountain at the 1st Annual Shedhorn Ski Mo race sponsored by Big Sky Resort, Dynafit, ProBar, Bluewater Ropes and non-profit sponsor Adventure Scientists for Conservation on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

The Shedhorn course crosses the summit of Lone Mountain twice, covering sixteen miles and a gain of over 9,000 vertical feet. “We have always wanted to celebrate the grandeur of Lone Mountain, with an event that encompasses skier ability and endurance.” explains Co-Race Director Noah Ronczkowski. This event will truly embrace the Biggest Skiing in America with athletes traveling over different types of terrain and snow conditions by skinning, boot packing, ascents via jumar device and downhill skiing on double black diamond terrain including the Big Couloir. “We are excited to showcase Lone Mountain and all its variable terrain and conditions including the rare inbounds alpine exposure.” says Co-Race Director Casey Heerdt.

The 2015 event is an invitational to top athletes and 2016 will be open registration to a limited number of participants. Spectators are welcome with the most recommended location being the top of the Lone Peak Triple Chair. The race start is 8:00 AM in the Big Sky Resort Mountain Village Base Area.

Join for the After Party- Whiskey A-Go-Go in the Mountain Village Plaza outside of Whiskey Jack’s from 5:00-8:00 PM featuring a Montana Whiskey Tasting from Headframe Spirits, Roughstock, Willie’s, Bozeman Spirits and WildRye and music and dancing with DJ 5STAR and Go-Go dancers.
