Visit Billings announced the city has been selected as a finalist in the bid for the men’s Big Sky Conference post season basketball tournament. In the coming weeks, the entity will host a site inspection for the Conference planners to better familiarize them with Billings and its capacity to act as a neutral host for the event.
“This opportunity is beyond exciting for us,” shared Alex Tyson, Executive Director of Visit Billings. “We know we have phenomenal facilities to show them as well as a supportive fan base. Pair that with extremely competitive bid, and we know we’re making a significant statement. We’re thankful for the strong partnership we continue to be able to put forth with Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark. Our bid is difficult to beat because we’re working together, and now we’ll have the decision makers here to see it in person.”
In preparing the bid, Visit Billings collected letters from a wide array of state representatives and local associations. “From the Governor to the sports fan in town, we presented more than 35 letters from government officials, business owners, and individuals, all expressing their support for the Big Sky Conference in Billings,” says John Brewer, President and CEO of the Billings Chamber of Commerce. “We’ve been working hard to position Billings as a sporting event destination and earned our way into this site selection process. We’re eager to show off the community and further our chances of landing the men’s event.”
Visit Billings bid for the Big Sky Conference for dates in 2016, 2017 and 2018. A final announcement of the selected destinations is expected this spring.
