Celebrating the addition of three new cities, Visit Lincoln and destination marketing organizations (DMO) representing all cities of the Big Ten have partnered to launch a new initiative designed to encourage visitation beyond attendance at athletic events.

“Each and every one of our communities across the Big Ten have incredible passion for college athletics and that is certainly the case here in Lincoln,” says Jeff Maul, Executive Director of Visit Lincoln. “As we welcome new members into the Big Ten, there are exciting opportunities to welcome new visitors to our communities and new venues for them to enjoy outside the arenas of competition.

Working with destination experience technology company Bandwango, the group developed a digital passport featuring the top 10 attractions for each of the 17 Big Ten cities representing 18 schools. The free passport is easily accessible from a mobile device, providing instant access to the most popular things to see and do in each location.

“The passport highlights a mix of what makes Lincoln, Lincoln—a great place to bring the family and enjoy the offerings of a big city while keeping the small town feel and hospitality.”

Maul is thrilled to have Big Ten newcomers Los Angeles, Eugene and Seattle as additions to Cities of the Big Ten.

“The addition of these communities means there are exciting new communities and spots for Husker fans and fans of other Big Ten teams to visit and enjoy. Tourism helps bring communities together and the travel passport will help bind the 17 Big Ten cities together,” Maul concludes.
