DelMoSports is excited to announce that their 7th Annual Atlantic City Triathlon to be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017, was recently selected to serve as the 2017 USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.
The Olympic distance race will consist of a 1 mile swim, 20 mile bike, and a 5 mile run. Participants will swim in the safe harbors of Atlantic City’s beautiful back bay, bike along the Atlantic City Expressway and run on the World Famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. Competitors who finish in the top 33 percent or top five (whichever is greater) in their respective age groups at this Regional Championship will automatically qualify for the 2018 USA Triathlon Olympic-Distance Age Group National Championships.
"The Atlantic City Triathlon provides an ideal venue and fantastic destination event for our Regional Championship and certain to draw a highly competitive age group field as athletes vie for spots to compete in the USA Triathlon National Age Group Championships,” said Robert Vigorito, Chair of the USAT Mid-Atlantic Region. “The DelMoSports team and local community have a successful record of producing world-class events, and this has been one of the fastest growing triathlons in New Jersey. We look forward to working with them for the next two years of our Regional International Distance Championship,” he added.
“We are thrilled to have the USAT Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in Atlantic City,” said Stephen Del Monte, CEO DelMoSports. “Atlantic City is no stranger to hosting world-class sporting events and to have the opportunity to host a regional championship could not have been done without the support of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and the Atlantic City Sports Commission.”
The Atlantic City Triathlon is a favorite for triathletes with about 1,500 competing annually. Participation in the 2017 event is expected to increase significantly with the athletes and their friends and families traveling to Atlantic City for the event. Officials are thrilled they’ll get to experience the iconic Jersey Shore town in the height of the summer season.
"The Atlantic City Sports Commission is thrilled to announce our partnership with the USAT Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship that will be held in Atlantic City. Our seaside resort is the perfect setting for the triathletes. Atlantic City continues to diversify and attract high-profile sporting events to our destination year-round," said Jim Wood, president and CEO of Meet AC and the Atlantic City Sports Commission.
