The USA Triathlon Club National Championships are returning to USA Triathlon’s National Championships calendar for the first time since 2016, set for July 20-21 as part of the New Jersey State Triathlon in West Windsor, New Jersey.

USA Triathlon Clubs from across the country will have the chance to compete for national titles and bragging rights, all based on the combined performance of their individual members over two days of racing.

“USA Triathlon looks forward bringing back Club Nationals in hopes of growing triathlon participation at the club level,” said Brian D’Amico, USA Triathlon Director of Events. “The New Jersey State Triathlon ranks annually as one of the largest and most popular triathlons in the U.S., making it the perfect setting for some healthy competition among the nation’s top multisport clubs.”

On Saturday, July 20, a sprint-distance triathlon will feature a 500-meter swim, 11.5-mile bike and 3.1-mile run. The Olympic-distance follows on Sunday, July 21, featuring a 1,500m swim, 25.2-mile bike and 6.2-mile run. Both races will be held on a flat and fast course at Mercer County Park, with the swim taking place at Mercer Lake.

The New Jersey State Triathlon, produced by CGI Racing, has sold out to 3,500 triathletes annually since its inception in 2006. It is a multi-year finalist for Triathlon Business International’s “Triathlete’s Choice” Awards, and was voted Best Triathlon in the Mid-Atlantic Region by Competitor Group (now Pocket Outdoor Media).

“We’re thrilled to be able to host athletes from all over the country at this incredible venue,” said Larry Redrow, Co-Director of CGI Racing and Race Director for the New Jersey State Triathlon. “The New Jersey State Triathlon is within driving distance for over 100 million people, and is under an hour from the Philadelphia and New York airports. It is a beautiful location and tremendously accessible for athletes.”

The national competition will be divided into three divisions based on club size: Division I (26+ participating members), Division II (11-25 participating members), and Division III (3-10 participating members). Men and women will be scored separately. Awards will be presented to the top-three men’s and women’s clubs in each division, using combined results from the sprint- and Olympic-distance races.

Clubs will be ranked based on cross-country-style scoring, a different method than in previous years. The top three, four or five finishers in each club (based on division) will score — 1 point for 1st place, 5 points for 5th place, etc. — with the lowest combined total winning the title.

Club Nationals were last held in Loveland, Colorado, in 2016 as part of the Loveland Lake to Lake Triathlon. The competition was split into five divisions that year, and the national champions included Columbia Multisport (Division I), Boulder Triathlon Club (DII), Rock Tri Club (DIII), Northern Colorado Triathlon Club (DIV) and Greeley Triathlon Club (DV).
