The 20th annual ‘Tri the Wildwoods’ Triathlon will take place along the Wildwoods’ beaches, streets and boardwalk on Saturday, August 26, with over 1,500 athletes from across the country participating in this “rite of passage race.” Sponsored by Stampone O’Brien Dilsheimer Law and Inspira Health, the triathlon’s modified “Olympic” division includes: an “Olympic” Triathlon with a .75-Mile Swim, 10-Mile Bike Race and a 10K Run; and an “Olympic” Aquabike with a .75-Mile Swim and 10-Mile Bike. The triathlon’s Sprint division includes: a Sprint Triathlon with a .25-Mile Swim, 10-Mile Bike, and a 5K Run; and a Sprint Aquabike with a .25-Mile Swim and 10-Mile Bike. For the young athletes, there is a Wild Child Triathlon with a 50-Meter Swim/Splash, 2-Mile Bike, and 1-Mile Run. 'Tri the Wildwoods' has always been known as a race of unpredictable weather, with a challenging course and possibly the best after-party for a triathlon in the state of New Jersey! Simply stated, it’s a “must do” triathlon. It is a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event, and first took place in the Wildwoods in August 2004. Since then, it has grown to attract more than 1,500 runners each year from throughout the northeast, as well as athletes from areas including Colorado, California, Ireland, Germany and Canada.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each age group immediately following the race.www.DelMoSports.com. Past champions of this race include USAT Olympian Joe Maloy (a Wildwoods native), former USAT Olympian Jarod Shoemaker, and Lifetime Fitness Champion Alicia Kaye. The spirit of this classic Jersey shore triathlon is not with the pros, but with the “Joe’s” – the thousands of age groupers who have made it to the starting line since 2004.
