The annual Beach Ultimate Tournament, the largest co-ed beach flying disc tournament in the world, celebrates 31 years in the Wildwoods on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30.
The Wildwood Beach Ultimate Tournament, held every July in the Wildwoods, started in 1992 and draws over 500 teams from the United States and around the globe.
Beach Ultimate is a non-contact team sport played with a flying disc. It mixes the best features of sports such as soccer, basketball, American football, and netball into a simple yet fascinating and demanding game. Points are scored by passing the disc to a teammate in the opposing end zone of the playing field. Other basic rules are that players must not take steps while holding the disc, and interceptions, incomplete passes, and passes out of bounds are turnovers.
Teams participate in this action-packed tournament consisting of 4-on-4 competitions for players of all experience levels, ages 18 years and older. A traditional game is played until one team achieves 15 scores. A score is like a touchdown, because to score, someone must catch the disc in the end zone. All Beach Ultimate players demonstrate strength, agility, and stamina in order to play such a physical game while sinking into a soft, sandy surface.
Competitions will be held from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday. Fields will be on the Wildwoods beaches. Admission is FREE for spectators.
