Albany Capital Center to Host 2021 Through 2023 NYSPHSAA Boys Volleyball State Championships

The Albany Capital Center and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) today announced they will jointly host the 2021 through 2023 Boys Volleyball State Championships. The contract was awarded following a competitive bidding process in which all proposals were reviewed and voted on at the NYSPHSAA Central Committee’s annual summer meeting on Wednesday, July 29.

“We are delighted to be able to continue our relationship with NYSPHSAA and provide a championship atmosphere for the best teams in New York state,” said Doug McClaine, general manager of the Albany Capital Center. “Our facility offers top-notch amenities for the athletes and spectators, and we are looking forward to welcoming an event of this caliber to the Capital Region once again.”

“We look forward to returning to the Capital Center in Albany for our boys volleyball state tournament. The Capital Center offers us an outstanding venue to host our event providing a quality playing surface, intimate but big enough space for fans, and ample amenities to allow us to host a successful event,” said Joe Altieri, assistant director of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. “We have also established a great working relationship with the Capital Center staff the last two years, which understands exactly what we need to ensure the experience is top notch for student-athletes, coaches and fans. We look forward to working with them for three more years.”

Previously, the Albany Capital Center hosted the NYSPHSAA Boys Volleyball Championships in the fall of 2018 and 2019, bringing more than 700 athletes plus spectators to the Albany area. That was the first time the championships were held in the Capital Region. They were set to remain at the ACC in 2020 but were canceled due to the current health crisis.
