The Sports Facilities Companies (SFC), a national leader in sports, recreation, and event facility management, has been selected to operate Destination KP, the upcoming premier sports facility located on Long Island, New York. Tim O’Connell has been appointed as General Manager for the new venue designed as “the future of Long Island youth sports.”
O'Connell, a prominent figure in the local sports community, brings over 25 years of experience in sports and recreation management to Destination KP. With his extensive background, including his tenure as a Deputy Commissioner of Parks and Recreation in Nassau County, he will oversee operations, cultivate revenue growth, and build an engaged customer base for the state-of-the-art sports destination.
"I’m excited to be part of this historic, first-of-its-kind athletic project here on Long Island. Residents who’ve had to travel out of state for tournaments will now be able to stay and play at home,” said O’Connell. “Leading the team at Destination KP is a chance to take my lifelong passion for youth sports and use it to serve our community. I share SFC's vision to create a place that not only cultivates athletic talent but also acts as a cornerstone for local economic growth."
Planned as a 44-acre, state-of-the-art sports facility, Destination KP is dedicated to excellence in sports performance and training experiences. This multi-purpose venue will not only support athlete development but also serve as a community hub, creating economic growth and opportunities for the region.
Destination KP’s groundbreaking facility is designed to include seven outdoor multi-purpose fields, a 65,000 sq. ft. indoor sports and recreation center, first-class concessions space, and commercial office pads to offer sports medicine and physical therapy services. This space will be capable of hosting a myriad of sports events, tournaments, and programs.
Key features of Destination KP include:
- Seven Outdoor Multi-Purpose Fields: Six full-size turf fields and one practice field.
- Indoor Recreation Facility: A 64,800 sq. ft. facility with the flexibility for numerous regulation-size basketball courts or multipurpose box fields (60 x 30 yards each). The space will accommodate a clearance height of approximately 60 feet.
- Event-Centric Concessions: A two-story, 3,200 sq. ft. concession building with a commercial kitchen for food service and event catering.
- Sports Medicine & Office Facilities: Commercial office spaces offering medical services like sports medicine and physical therapy.
- Ample Parking for Events: 1,017 parking spaces to accommodate thousands of tournament attendees on peak days.
The partnership with SFC marks a significant step toward achieving Destination KP’s vision of becoming Long Island’s premier sports and community destination. Leveraging decades of expertise, SFC will oversee operations, drive revenue growth, and build a robust customer base through strategic programming, team engagements, and tailored sports performance training programs.
With a focus on driving economic growth, Destination KP is also expected to make a significant impact on the Long Island community. By attracting tournaments, leagues, and events, the facility will generate tourism and provide opportunities for local businesses, further cementing its role as a valuable driver of regional development.
"Destination KP represents the future of sports and training destinations, and we’re honored to bring our operational insights to this groundbreaking venue,” said Jim Arnold, SFC Business Development Director. “Our goal is to help transform this project into a hub for athletics, community engagement, and economic impact on Long Island.”
