Thanks to the work that was done in the fall, the Whiteface Club and Resort Golf Course in Lake Placid has once again emerged from the snow and ice of winter in extraordinary condition and will welcome players for the 2024 season starting Thursday, May 9.

PGA Club Professional Perry Babcock will officially begin play at 10 AM with the ceremonial opening shot from the first tee.

“We’re looking forward to seeing many familiar faces right from the start of the season,” said Babcock. “Club residents, members and visitors will find a course that came through the winter in great shape, and will only get better as the season rolls along.”

The Adirondack Mountain layout was listed among the top 10 places for fall golf by USA TODAY 10Best.

The classic par 71 track in Upstate New York, designed by John Van Kleek and Walter Hagen, is carved through the Adirondack pine. Measuring from 5,000 to 6,400 yards, it challenges men and women of all abilities with elevation changes, tight fairways and undulating greens. But there are some scoring holes, as witnessed by the seven aces registered last year on three of the four par three holes. In addition, the final three holes – a short par four and two par fives||provide opportunities to gain on your opponents.

Babcock and his welcoming staff will take tee times by calling 518-523-PUTT. They offer private lessons, as well as clinics for women and juniors. This season, the Whiteface Club will add its course to the growing number of golf facilities around the nation offering the PGA Junior League for ages 4 to 13. This is team golf for youngsters. Call the shop to register your aspiring tour pro.

Players may walk or ride anytime. The Whiteface Club has expanded its luxury line of comfortable and smooth-riding Yamaha golf carts that feature USB ports, roofs and windshields. Seasonal rates are available for frequent players.

When the round is over, you can settle the bets inside or outside by stepping off the 18th green and strolling into the Café on the Green. The café, available Wednesday to Sunday until 5 PM, has already opened for the season with a menu of golfers’ favorites. The Classic Reuben, the Kobe Burger and the all-American favorite BLT are among the many and varied selections, accompanied by regional craft beers.

To step up one’s culinary selections, be sure to make a reservation at The Moose Lodge Boathouse on Lake Placid which began welcoming diners on May 3, its earliest opening. Literally overlooking Lake Placid lake, the menu includes Bourbon Salmon, Baby Back Ribs and Sirloin Steak Anticucho. Moose Lodge also boasts Lake Placid’s largest Single Malt Scotch collection. Moose Lodge, to start the season, will offer dinner Friday through Sunday nights.

Executive Chef Jonathan Studley, who joined the Whiteface Club team 18 months ago, will provide dining experiences for players and members in his second season. Since his arrival, Studley, whose impressive resume includes national and international establishments, has reimagined the menus and his staff. They were unveiled last weekend in both eateries.

“Hungry golfers and discerning diners will love the diverse selections that are planned for the two restaurants,” stated Chef Studley. “Golfers will enjoy the vibe at the café, while our lakeside patrons at Moose Lodge will immerse themselves in an upscale setting befitting the menu. They can dine al fresco on the beach, on the decks, on the “Captain’s Table” on the docks, or enjoy the experience of the boathouse’s indoor facilities.”

“We’ve been anxiously awaiting the start of the summer season and now it’s here,” added Mark Sperling, CEO of the Whiteface Companies. “We look forward to seeing many familiar faces, both homeowners and resort friends and guests, across the breadth of the Whiteface Club property. With the help of our caring and professional staff, we anticipate a fabulous summer and fall season.”

The Whiteface Club and Resort is sister property to the AAA Four Diamond Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa. The two luxury properties are separated by just three miles.
