2017 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships to Bring $15 Million to Greensboro, N.C.

The 2017 US Youth Soccer Region III (Southern) Regional Championships, to be played June 23-29, will provide an estimated economic impact of $15 million to the Greensboro, N.C., area.

The top 224 Boys and Girls US Youth Soccer teams in the 13-and-Under through 19/20-and-Under age groups from Region III will compete at BB&T Soccer Complex at Bryan Park during the event. The event is expected to have a significant influence on the community.

“North Carolina Youth Soccer is thrilled to partner with Greensboro United Soccer Association, the Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Greensboro, and the BB&T Soccer Complex at Bryan Park for the 2017 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships,” said Keith Price, President of North Carolina Youth Soccer. “NCYSA and Greensboro were selected to host again in 2018 and this will be the first time a location has been selected to host the Region III Championships two years in a row. Recently, BB&T Soccer Complex at Bryan Park was named one of the top five locations to host a tournament by Mike Libber, president and owner of Elite Tournaments. This will be the sixth time since 1983 that NCYSA has hosted the US Youth Soccer Region III Championships, now four times in Greensboro and twice in Raleigh, N.C. We all look forward to another terrific event!”
 
Hotels, restaurants, attractions, retail shops and others will benefit from the more than 3,600 players, along with the team coaches, tournament officials, college coaches and spectators attending the eight-day tournament. Visitors to the Greensboro area will book an estimated 19,500 room nights at area hotels.

So, with the support of the City of Greensboro, the Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Bryan Foundation, we created a master plan for our flagship facility, BB&T Soccer Complex at Bryan Park,” said the Executive Director of Greensboro United Soccer Association, Pete Polonsky.
 
“Over the last three years, we’ve been able to complete a significant upgrade to our site, allowing us to host this wonderful event again. We are proud of our wonderful facilities, and excited to share it and our great hotels, restaurants, merchants and area attractions with the players, coaches, families and guests from Region III.”

The event consists of US Youth Soccer State Champions from 12 state associations, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Texas and Tennessee. US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Premier League Division champions and select wild cards will also join the State Champions at the event.
 
The Region III Championships are part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, the country's oldest and most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. Following individual state championship tournaments, the Regional Championships are the second leg of the National Championship Series. Regional winners of the 13-and-Under through 19/20-and-Under brackets earn a berth to the 2017 US Youth Soccer National Championships in Frisco, Texas.
