At Play Greenville, NC Sports, the staff has announced it has seven months under its belt as a sports commission. Being halfway through its fiscal year, it’s right on target with recruiting 21 sporting events estimated to generate just over $10 million in estimated economic impact in Greenville-Pitt County.
Greenville-Pitt County is bringing its first-ever sanctioned USA Lacrosse Tournament, the Greenville BBQ LAX Bash, to Greenville-Pitt County in early October 2020. Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports, both nationally and locally in Greenville.
Greenville has a large fan base and very supportive local softball community, and is excited to announce it has been selected to host the Little League Softball World Series in August 2020. This would not be possible without valuable partners, including Greenville Little League, the City of Greenville, and Recreation and Parks, as well as countless other supporters and community members who have already begun the work to make the LLSWS a home run.
Lastly, the sports facility inventory is growing with the addition of new beach volleyball courts at Boyd Lee Park, and the area takes great pride in having the opportunity to tap into this new market as beach volleyball has made the quickest transition in NCAA history, going from an emerging sport to a championship sport, and is now also the fastest-growing NCAA Division I sport.
With the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s pressure to ensure the safety and health of all participating athletes, Greenville-Pitt County partners are expected to become SafeSport Certified.
