Visit Greenville in North Carolina has unveiled its calendar of events for early 2018.
January 26 – 28: Bojangles' Beast of the East Soccer Tournament - Pitt-Greenville Soccer Complex and ECU North Recreation Complex
February 23 – 25: Del Se Naach National Dance Competition - ECU Wright Auditorium
March 8 – 12: First NC Robotics Tournament - ECU Minges Coliseum
March 15 – 18: USA Gymnastics-North Carolina State Meet - Greenville Convention Center
March 16 – 18: NIRSA Region II Regional Basketball Championship - ECU Recreation Center
March 16 – 18: SWAC Basketball Tournament - H. Boyd Lee Park
The First North Carolina is a nonprofit organization created to inspire young people in the state to pursue education and careers in science and technology. In January, teams from around the world will tune in to watch what the 2018 competition will be. After the “game” is revealed, a kit of common parts will be sent out to all participating teams. Teams then have six weeks to design and build their robot, and enter a regional or district competition such as the District Tournament hosted by ECU March 8 - 12at ECU's Minges Coliseum. This event is expected to bring over 1,500 people to Greenville and generate an estimated economic impact of over $583,000.
The National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) will be holding their Region II Basketball tournament March 16 - 18, 2018 at the ECU Student Recreation Center. Teams from around the Southeastern United States will compete for a spot in the National Championship held at Ohio State University on April 20. The winner of the tournament will have their entry fee for the national tournament paid for, and other competing teams will have the opportunity to earn at-large bids for the tournament. Assistant Director of ECU Club Sports Justin Waters expects fifteen teams to compete, which would bring close to 500 competitors and additional support travelers to Greenville-Pitt County over this weekend.
