Travel industry partners in New Hanover County will welcome more than 2,500 athletes and their families this month when the 2024 Parkway Subaru Battleship NC Half Marathon presented by Heineken & GFL 10K |5K presented by Fleet Feet returns to Wilmington and our Island Beaches on Nov. 17.
The 26th Annual Battleship Half Marathon started in 1998 and is one of the oldest half marathons in the South. Approximately 2,500 participants are expected to attend this year representing 32 states, and 5 countries, including men and women serving in every branch of the United States Military. Participants will be joined by family members, spectators and event volunteers, nearly doubling the number of attendees anticipated for the weekend.
Colin Hackman, Parkway Subaru Battleship NC Half Marathon Co-Race Director states: “The Battleship NC Half Marathon is one of the oldest half marathons in the South, drawing over 2,500 athletes each year to experience Wilmington’s unique blend of history and community spirit. This event is more than a race; it’s an opportunity to honor the brave men who served aboard the Battleship North Carolina and the thousands of North Carolinians who served in WWII. We’re proud to carry on this tradition, bringing together runners from all over to celebrate our heritage and our city.”
Prior to the race, on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the event expo will host over 20 vendors at the host hotel, the Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center. The Half Marathon, 10k and 5k will take place on Sunday morning, November 17, starting and finishing at Water Street Park (formerly Riverfront Park) in downtown Wilmington. This year the El Cerro Grande Group is hosting the Parkway Subaru Post-Race Celebration in the Athlete Village at Water Street Park, located adjacent to the finish line at Princess and Water Streets with live music and beer provided by Heineken. Race schedules, course maps, sponsors and other event information can be found online at www.battleshiphalfmarathon.com.
