It’s rodeo time in Northeast Oklahoma! Rodeo Miami has grown to be one of the largest and most talked about family events in the region. Vance Auto Group will present Rodeo Miami on May 2 and May 3 at the Miami Fairgrounds. This event has been recognized by the American Cowboy Rodeo Association (ACRA) as the Rodeo of the Year for the past four consecutive years.
Rodeo action kicks off in Miami on Friday, May 2 with INTEGRIS Kids Night. Gates at the Miami Fairgrounds will open at 5 p.m. nightly. Kids activities will start at 6:30 p.m. The rodeo performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. The 2014 Rodeo Miami Queen and Little Miss Rodeo Miami Princess will be crowded on Friday.
A crowd favorite event, Mutton Busting will return to Rodeo Miami. Kids interested in entering must be registered at the announcers stand each night by 6:30 p.m. Participation is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants must be not weigh more than sixty pounds. Cost to enter is $20. Each night, the winner will receive a Rodeo Miami buckle. Mutton Busting will begin at 7 p.m. prior to the start of the rodeo performance.
Back by popular demand, Gizmo the Clown will be a part of the performance both nights. Gizmo has been entertaining rodeo crowds across the country for over a decade. Rodeo entertainment is being presented by Buffalo Run Casino. Contestant hospitality sponsor for the event will be Big Daddy’s BBQ.
Slack will take place on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. Cost to attend is $5 per person at the gate. Once slack is complete, the stands will be cleared and prepared for the evening performance. Activities for kids will kick-off at 6:30 p.m. and the rodeo will follow at 7:30 p.m. Rodeo fans are encouraged to wear pink on Saturday to help in supporting the “tough enough to wear pink” theme. Pink bracelet will be sold and special activities will take place to help support breast cancer programs in our region. Following tradition, the Spirit of Miami Award presentation will take place on Saturday during the performance and a concert will be held in the Fairgrounds Arena. Marc Chamberlain and the Whiskey Poet Society will headline the concert. Admission to this special event is included in the purchase of a rodeo ticket.
Media sponsors for Rodeo Miami 2014 include the Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, KOAM and Fox 14. Organizing sponsors are the City of Miami, Miami CVB, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and the Ottawa County Fair Board.
Rodeo tickets can be purchased from Queen or Princess Contestants, the City of Miami Utility Billing Office, the Miami CVB Visitor Center (101 N. Main) or at Westco locations in Miami, Vinita, Grove, Neosho, MO and Columbus, KS. Advanced tickets are $10 nightly for adults or $15 for both nights. At the gate, a one-day ticket will be sold for $12 for adults. Tickets for kids (ages 4-10) are $5 nightly in advance and at the gate. Ages 3 and under are free.
