The American Barefoot Club, a sport discipline organization of USA Water Ski & Wake Sports, has announced the selections to the 2018 U.S. Elite, Junior and Senior Barefoot Water Ski Teams that will compete in the 2018 Barefoot Water Ski World Championships, Aug. 12-18, at Dream Lake in Napanee, Ontario, Canada.
For the seventh consecutive time, the biennial Elite Barefoot Water Ski World Championships will be held simultaneously with the biennial Junior and Senior Barefoot Water Ski World Championships. The Elite Barefoot Worlds is taking place for the 21st time, the Junior Barefoot Worlds is taking place for the 13th time, and the Senior Barefoot Worlds is taking place for the 11th time. Athletes and teams from more than a dozen countries will compete for world team titles and world individual titles in wake slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.
Athletes that have been selected to the U.S. Elite Barefoot Water Ski Team are: Michael Caruso (Delray Beach, Fla.), Landen Ehlers (Austin, Texas), Jackson Gerard (Babson Park, Fla.), Jason Lee (Winter Haven, Fla.), Lexi McCauley (Louisville, Ohio), Brody Meskers (Chetek, Wis.), Keith St. Onge (Winter Haven, Fla.) and Alex Youngblood (Highland, Mich.).
Athletes that have been selected to the U.S. Junior Barefoot Water Ski Team are: Jackson Gerard (Babson Park, Fla.), Lexi McCauley (Louisville, Ohio), Ryleigh Stenson (Buffalo, Minn.), Brice Storman (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Brett Swanbom (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) and Alex Youngblood (Highland, Mich.).
Athletes that have been selected to the U.S. Senior Barefoot Water Ski Team are: Dan Baumgartner (Hartland, Wis.), Teri Jones (Orlando, Fla.), Jason Lee (Winter Haven, Fla.), Joe Lovato (Tigard, Ore.), Chris McWatters (Winter Haven, Fla.) and Rachel Normand (Tega Cay, S.C.).
Dale Stevens (West Palm Beach, Fla.), Jason Lee (Winter Haven, Fla.) and Jerry Kanawyer (Byron, Calif.) will serve as the coaches for the Elite, Junior and Senior teams, respectively. Lauren St. Onge (Winter Haven, Fla.) and A.J. Lacsamana (Chicago, Ill.) will serve as manager and trainer, respectively.
At the 2016 Barefoot Worlds in Alma Center, Wis., the U.S. Junior Barefoot Water Ski Team and U.S. Senior Barefoot Water Ski Team each won overall team gold medals, the U.S. Elite Barefoot Water Ski Team earned the overall team silver medal, and 13 U.S. athletes combined to earn 33 individual medals, including 11 gold medals.
