The Eugene Cascades and Coast Sports Commission will present the Sand Master Jam, a sand boarding competition, on July 18.

Sandboarding mirrors snowboarding except the snow-covered mountains are replaced with sand dunes. Dune Riders International is the governing body for competitive sandboarding and three of their sanctioned events each season are at Sand Master Park in Florence, Oregon.

Sand Master Park is the world’s first sandboard park with 40 acres of private sculpted sand dunes. They host the longest running sandboarding competition in the world, The Sand Master Jam. This year’s event is Saturday, July 18th and will include the current sandboarding world champion along with returning former world and national champions. The Jam kicks off at 2:00 p.m. with the rail slide, then slalom and drags, and finishes with the final rail slide competition.

Eugene’s Washington Jefferson Skatepark opened in April 2014 and is the nation’s largest outdoor covered skatepark. The 23,000 square foot park hosts the Northwest Jam and it’s back for its second year.

Local company, Tactics Boardshop, along with title sponsors Nike SB, Volcom and Independent Truck Co., will host this year’s tournament on Saturday, August 22nd. The NW Jam features 60 skateboarders who are either invited or have quailified in a qualifying event.

There’s still time to enter a NW Jam qualifier; “Concrete Carnage” is on July 18th or “NWJ Quailifier #2″ is on August 8th. NW Jam competitors are judged on their skill, style and versatility throughout the various sections of WJ park.
