Ron Sertz has been named the winner of the Legacy Award, presented each year by the Erie Times-News and GoErie.com as part of its Commitment to Erie Awards program.

Sertz, the founder of the Erie Sports Commission, will be honored Sept. 19 at the annual Commitment to Erie Awards dinner at Erie’s Bayfront Convention Center.
The awards program, now in its eighth year, was created to honor businesses and nonprofit organizations for their demonstrated commitment to the community and the local economy by the jobs they provide, the ways they give back to the community and the ways in which they spark the local economy.
The Legacy Award is given each year to an individual who has helped to shape and improve the Erie community through years of involvement in public life.
Sertz, who received a number of nominations for the award, is a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and spent a long career promoting Erie sports, often in ways that have helped to shape and improve the local economy.
Among other accomplishments, he was an owner and founding director of the Erie Otters, founding team president of the Erie BayHawks and founded and for 25 years led the McDonald’s Basketball Classic.
Tickets for the annual awards dinner are available at www.GoErie.com/CTE.
