At Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, we’re outstanding in our field – and our fields are equally outstanding. In fact, here in Northeastern Pennsylvania (or NEPA, as we say here), we have more than 50 baseball fields and more than 60 softball fields – enough for any tournament you bring our way. And if basketball courts are what you need, we have those here too – more than 40 of them, in fact.
Our venues range from professional sites (we’re the home of the SWB RailRiders, the Triple A baseball franchise for the New York Yankees) to universities and high schools to private facilities. Using our venue tier-system, our specialized, professional and friendly staff can assist you in pinpointing locations in pristine condition for your teams and customizing a schedule that adheres to all your needs. You’ll come into your tournament ready to play, with a convenient, easy to navigate footprint that helps everyone get where they need to be.
Want to talk accommodations? We’re ready to help there, too. Lackawanna County has a full complement of hotels in all sizes, service levels and price points. Want something off-the-beaten path? We have charming bed and breakfasts as well as unique country inns, not to mention campgrounds and cottages. We can even help any of your athletes who are seeking out pet-friendly accommodations and amenities.
When the games are done, there’s plenty to do here. We have shopping and sightseeing, as well as plenty of nearby attractions. From art galleries to wildlife parks, from whitewater rafting to wineries and from trail horseback riding to trampoline parks, there’s something to do for everyone. We’re even home to the Houdini Museum in Scranton – the only museum solely dedicated to the famed escape artist. You’ll want to extend your visit just to take advantage of it all!
We’re already making a name for ourselves in hosting. The Steamtown Sizzler, a softball tournament, brought in 50 teams from five different states this past summer. The Steamtown Marathon, a Boston qualifier, runs along the Lackawanna River, using our famous rails-to-trails infrastructure, each October. And the Lackawanna County Amateur Golf Tournament played at the Scranton Golf Course in August. We’re also the longtime home of the Lackawanna Three-on-Three Basketball tournament, a fixture on the calendar each year and a huge attraction for players throughout the region. In short, we’re a sweet spot for sports, no matter where the competition plays out.
What else do we have to offer you? A winning location! Lackawanna County is only a two-hour drive from major cities like New York City and Philadelphia, making this an accessible location for any tournament. Flying in? You’ll be pleased to know the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is close by, too.
