The Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board, Valley Forge Sports, and the Valley Forge Casino Resort recently announced that arm wrestling athletes from both Team United Kingdom and Team USA will be competing for the Independence Cup.
Representatives from Valley Forge Sports and Montgomery County, PA shared details about the event, set to be hosted at the Valley Forge Casino Resort on the weekend of March 21st through the 22nd.
“Valley Forge Sports is ecstatic to welcome the Independence Cup and 98% Armwrestling to Montgomery County”, said Rachel Dailey Associate Director of Sports. “We’re proud to be a destination that can host a wide variety of sporting events, each of them with their own passionate fanbases. We know the Armwrestling community will find a welcoming atmosphere here in Montco.”
Doors open at 5pm for the 6pm ArmGods Supermatches on Friday’s night. On Saturday, an open-format tournament known as the 98% WinterBlast will commence at 1pm.
Ryan Grondin, Executive Director of 98% Armwrestling & FTG Apparel, says, “We chose Montgomery County and the iconic Valley Forge Casino Resort as the perfect location for our arm-wrestling tournament and supermatch event because of the deep historical significance of Valley Forge—a place where resilience, strength, and determination shaped the course of American history. Just as General George Washington and his troops endured and triumphed against adversity, our event embodies that same fighting spirit, bringing together elite athletes who push the limits of their power and perseverance. We are incredibly proud to host this momentous competition, the Independence Cup, where Team USA will go head-to-head with the formidable athletes of Team United Kingdom in an electrifying showdown of skill, endurance, and national pride. This event is more than just a tournament—it’s a tribute to the unbreakable will that unites competitors and nations alike, set against the backdrop of a place that represents the very foundation of American perseverance and victory.”
Sean Hancock will be in the house with a handpicked all-star team of refs this year. Corey Miller will be running brackets with a team of skilled brackets folk. Ryan Grondin, Susan Fischer, and the 98% staff will be running a highly efficient and smooth weigh in and registration process.
Competition levels (weight classed) include Men’s & Women’s SEMI-PRO, PRO, Amateur, Masters (40+), Grand Masters (49+), Senior Grand Masters (59+) and Novice. There will also be a kid’s division.
For kids and teens, brackets will be decided on the day of tournament determined by entries. Kids begin at noon. Kids and teens up to age 17 pull free of charge and will be matched as closely as possible to age, weight, and gender depending on who participates. At the door, men's classes are $40 per arm and women's classes are $30 per arm.
