Registration for the 3rd Annual Event Opens Feb. 2

The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce the 3rd annual Stanganelli’s Pepperoni Ball Jog ‘n Hog, announced for June 14, 2014. This unique race will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Beach 1 of Presque Isle State Park, where runners will start a two-mile course, eat either three or six Stanganelli’s pepperoni balls, then run two miles back to the starting line.

Registration for the event begins on Feb. 2 and is open to all participants age 10 and over. All participants will receive a t-shirt and a coupon for six free Stanganelli’s pepperoni balls (in addition to those consumed on the course). Those who register on Feb. 2 can receive $5 off registration using the promo code “2014SAVE5”. Racers who register in teams of 12 or more people will also receive an additional $5 refund off their registration after the race. Teams are limited to 20 people.

As in last year’s event, brave participants may register in the “Whole Hogger Division”, which asks runners to eat six pepperoni balls at the race’s halfway point, or in the “Half Hogger Division”, in which participants eat only three pepperoni balls.

“My brother and I grew up in Erie, so this particular race is always something we look forward to,” said Andy Smith, who organizes the event with his brother Brian. “The help we have received from the Erie Sports Commission has been instrumental in the event’s success, and we are thrilled about our continued partnership.”

“The Erie Sports Commission is excited for this fun and unique event to return to Erie,” said ESC Executive Director Ron Sertz. “The Jog ‘n Hog has seen continued growth and success, and we are certain that this year’s event will be the best yet.”
