A new high school basketball showcase will debut at Gannon University’s Hammermill Center Monday, January 17. The MLK Dream Invitational will feature non-traditional matchups between eight of the region’s best teams, all featuring college recruits. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Erie, to assist in their effort to provide affordable sporting programs for students of all grades.
Four regional teams and four local teams have committed to play in the showcase, including the Erie High Royals, Erie High Lady Royals, Keystone Athletic Academy and McDowell Trojans. Scheduled matchups are as follows:
- Erie High Lady Royals vs. Jamestown High School Red Raiders – 1 p.m.
- Erie High Royals vs. Spire Academy (Geneva, Oh.) – 3 p.m.
- McDowell High School Trojans vs. East High School Eagles (Rochester, N.Y.) – 5 p.m.
- Keystone Athletic Academy Kings vs. Our Savior Lutheran Falcons (Bronx, N.Y.) – 7 p.m.
The final game of the showcase will feature the Falcons of Our Savior Lutheran, who opened the season ranked No. 16 in MaxPrep’s pre-season national rankings, with the 2020-21 MaxPreps New York High School Player of the Year, Jaquan Sanders, on the roster. They’ll take on local Keystone Athletic Academy in its debut season, featuring a roster of talent highlighted by native Erie standout Dellquan Warren.
