The city of Erie is gearing up for a pair of two-day championship events as Rolling Meadow Lanes will host the NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Erie Regional Championship and Erie Insurance Arena will play host to Champion Cheer Central’s Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships.
This is the first year the NCAA will host regional championships for women’s bowling leading up to the national championship, and Erie was chosen as one of four host sites. The two-day, double elimination tournament will take place Friday and Saturday and features the top-ranked team in the country, McKendree University, taking on Bowie State, Mount St. Mary’s and Medaille College.
The championship event is being co-hosted by the Erie Sports Commission, Mercyhurst University and Penn State Behrend. Action will begin both days at 9 a.m., with afternoon sessions at 3 p.m. The regional championship match will be played Saturday at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 or $5 for students for the whole day.

“We are proud of the relationships we build with organizations that come to Erie, and this weekend is a shining example,” Erie Sports Commission Executive Director Mark Jeanneret said. “We have developed a strong relationship with the NCAA and are excited to continue building a reputation for hosting great college championship events. Likewise, Champion Cheer Central has been a longtime partner of ours, and we are grateful that they will once again host their national championships in Erie.”
More than 150 teams will compete at the Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships, which caps off Champion Cheer Central’s season. Saturday will feature novice, prep and elite levels one and two teams, while Sunday will showcase the top dance, recreation and elite levels three and above competitors.
Tickets will be available at the event for $25 per day or $35 for a two-day pass. Members of the military or seniors over the age of 65 can purchase tickets for $20 for one day and $30 for both days, while children ages 6-12 will be admitted for $15 and $20, respectively. Children 5 years of age and younger are free to attend.
