Erie Welcomes Youth Cheer and Basketball Competitions This Weekend

The Erie Sports Commission will welcome two major youth sports competitions this weekend, as the 2025 Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships and the Syracuse Select Erie Hardwood Battle take place.

The 2025 Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships will be held at the Erie Insurance Arena. Organized by Champion Cheer Central, this competition will feature 270 teams and more than 3,300 participants traveling from Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, and Canada – representing the largest competition that Champion Cheer has ever hosted.

“We are thrilled to bring the Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships back to Erie,” said Heather Petz, co-owner of Champion Cheer Central. “This event provides an exciting opportunity for athletes to perform while enjoying all that Erie has to offer.”

Saturday schedule runs from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., while Sunday’s events will take place from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with teams taking the floor every four minutes.

The competition schedule will feature All School, Recreation Cheer, All Star Novice, and All Star Prep teams on Saturday. Sunday’s events will include all Dance Teams, All Star Elite Level 1, and All Star Elite Levels 2 and up.

At the same time, the Syracuse Select Erie Hardwood Battle will bring elite youth basketball teams to Erie. The tournament will take place at Hagerty Family Events Center and will feature 48 teams from the Northeast region.

The event will include boys’ and girls’ divisions from 4th to 12th grade, with both competitive and developmental brackets. Teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games.
