Fishing, Festivals and Fitness: August 2018 Events from Erie Sports Commission

The Erie Sports Commission will host and support six events in August 2018.

Lake Erie Cyclefest will kick off the month, as it partners with Erie’s Blues and Jazz Festival, hosting six cycling events across the region from August 2-5. The second annual event is a fundraiser for the YMCA of Greater Erie, WQLN Public Media and EmergyCare. More than 600 cyclists participated in the events in 2017, and more are expected in 2018. EPIC Volleyball Club will host a three-day, 26-team varsity volleyball camp at Ft. LeBoeuf and General McLane High Schools from August 8-10.

North Coast Bass Association (NCBA) will host its fourth annual King of Bass Tournament August 11-12 on Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie. The two-day event guarantees a 100% payout to the team with the heaviest haul over both days. Anglers will launch from Presque Isle Marina at 7 a.m. both days with weigh-ins scheduled at 3 p.m. Anglers can register at www.northcoastbass.com/.

The Crossfit FBO PA National Guard Great Lakes Challenge will once again be held as part of Celebrate Erie on Saturday, August 18. Each registrant will compete in three physically challenging events, earning points along the way. One male team and one female team will be crowned winners. More at https://crossfitfbo.com.

PA Bass Nation will host its annual Open Buddy Tournament on Saturday, August 25 on Lake Erie. A first place prize of $10,000 will go to the team with the heaviest catch, based on a 100-boat field. Interested anglers can register and learn more at http://pabassnation.com. 

Finally, The Lantern Fest will once again host its family-friendly festival at Lake Erie Speedway on Saturday, August 25. The national event series sees thousands of revelers gather for a night of music, dancing, s’mores and a release of special 100% biodegradable lanterns just after dark. The event has seen thousands of participants gather at Lake Erie Speedway in each of its last two years in the region. Registration and information are available online at www.thelanternfest.com.
