Events to be Held on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Martin Luther King Day Weekends

The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce that MLK-ACE Basketball will add two new tournaments in Erie this winter, resulting in three total tournaments over holiday weekends.

The First Annual MLK-ACE Turkey Day Challenge will be held Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29 and the First Annual MLK-ACE Christmas Shootout will be held Friday, December 27 and Saturday, December 28. Both tournaments will be held in Erie School District facilities.

The Thanksgiving and Christmas tournaments cost $200 each to register a team for three games. Those tournaments are open to boys and girls teams in 5th through 12th grades.

The two new events join the MLK-ACE P.O2.NY Basketball Showcase, which will be held for the sixth year on Saturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18, 2015. That tournament is expected to showcase over 25 varsity teams from Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and Canada. Registration is open to boys and girls in 5th grade through junior high and is $150 per team. The deadline for registration is January 7, 2015. The tournament will be held in Erie and Millcreek Schools.

“I’m excited to bring a Thanksgiving and a Christmas tournament back to Erie, and I’m glad to have the support of the Erie Sports Commission as we embark on this new journey,” said Michael X. Anderson, Tournament Director. “The success of last year’s tournament was thrilling, and I hope that the new tournaments will bring people of all walks of life to Erie, PA this winter.”

“The MLK Showcase has been a standard in Erie, and the addition of two more tournaments demonstrates the organization’s commitment to the region,” said Ron Sertz, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “We are looking forward to being a part of three successful MLK-ACE Basketball Tournaments this winter, and encourage teams and spectators to make these tournaments part of their holiday traditions.”
