“We are thrilled to be hosting the 2023 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball National Championship and look forward to welcoming all of the teams to Pittsburgh,” Director of Athletics for Penn West University, Clarion Wendy Snodgrass said. “We realize how hard these elite athletes have been working to achieve their goals of earning a spot at the national championship, and we are excited to give them an experience they will never forget.”
The impact of these eight competing teams will extend beyond vying for an NCAA title this weekend, as they collaborate with several local Moon Township and Downtown Pittsburgh Area elementary schools to generate a lasting, positive legacy within the community.
The teams will partner with Hyde Elementary, Moon Area Lower, JA Allard Elementary, JH Brooks Elementary, Mc Cormick Elementary, Allegheny Traditional and Urban Pathways Charter School to connect with the students through interactive and engaging activities, from reading stories and dance parties to practicing volleyball drills and sharing inspiring stories on what it means to be a student athlete.
Finally, 600-800 students from the local Pittsburgh elementary schools will attend game one on Thursday and will receive two additional tickets to attend any other day of the championship.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting another NCAA tournament, but most of all, we’re proud to work closely with Penn West University, Clarion and these incredible athletes to leave a positive impact on our local community,” SportsPITTSBURGH Executive Director Jennifer Hawkins said. “We can’t wait to fill the UPMC Events Center with our visiting teams, families, and fans and provide both visitors and local residents with an exciting weekend of volleyball.”
The 2023 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship is the third NCAA championship hosted by SportsPITTSBURGH in 2023.
