The virtual Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-Mile Run officially opens this Saturday, April 16th, and can be completed any time during National Park Week which concludes on April 24th.

Generating global attention, registrants from all over the world are set to participate, including runners from East Africa, Germany, and 22 U.S. States.

New this year, the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board, in partnership with Neighborhood Film Company of Philadelphia, released a promotional video to drive virtual and in-person race registrations.

To date, the video has received more than 200,000 video views on social media.

Registration for the virtual and in-person race, on Sunday, April 24th, will remain open until Saturday, April 23rd. The event cost ranges from $35 - $45 with an option to make personal donations. All proceeds from the event benefit Valley Forge National Historical Park.

Since its inception in 2006, Rev Run has raised $500,000 for Park infrastructure improvement projects and programming to enhance visitor experience. Contributions from last year’s donation of $42,000 will be used for bottle-filling stations around the Park, and new wayside interpretation panels for the Patriots of African Descent Monument.

Additional projects funded by Rev Run proceeds include design of informational midway kiosks, Once Upon a Nation programming, storytelling benches, future maintenance needs of Sullivan’s Bridge, the newly renovated Grand Parade Trail Steuben Plaza area, and other trail connections.

The VFTCB first introduced the virtual component of the race in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Runners and walkers from 24 different U.S. states and three countries participated virtually. Due to record-breaking registration, virtual participation will remain an option moving forward.

“We found such a strong passion within people who wanted to participate and support the Rev Run that we decided to continue offering the virtual option in addition to the in-person race this spring,” said Race Director Kirsten Tallman, “We look forward to continuing the conversations with our participants about the importance of Valley Forge’s story and how we can all play a part in the stewardship.”

Returning in 2022 are finisher medals for all participants. Additionally, registrants will receive a 2022 Revolutionary Run commemorative t-shirt and racing bib.

The top three male and female finishers of the in-person race will be awarded a cash prize from a purse totaling $1,400.

Sponsorships are available starting at $250, with upgraded digital sponsorship opportunites via the tourism board’s social media, website, and public relations efforts.

The Park has a significant economic impact on the region, generally contributing $36 million and several hundred jobs to the local economy.
