VisitPITTSBURGH President & CEO Jerad Bachar has announced his participation in the upcoming 2023 National Senior Games presented by Humana. SportsPITTSBURGH, a division of VisitPITTSBURGH, will host the Games, the largest multi-sport event in the world for senior athletes, July 7-18 throughout Allegheny County and Western Pennsylvania.
Bachar will compete in the 20K cycling race on Sunday, July 16. His decision to participate comes after the recent announcement opening registration to all athletes 50 years and older without requiring qualification.
“The National Senior Games feature the best athletes in the country and also serve as a vivid reminder of the importance of health and wellness over the age of 50,” Bachar said. “I hope my participation will give others who might be hesitant to participate enough encouragement to go for it. We may never have an opportunity like this again.”
“Jerad is bringing enthusiasm and spirit to The Games and is demonstrating to Pittsburghers first-hand how easy it is to get involved,” added SportsPITTSBURGH Executive Director Jennifer Hawkins. “For those on the fence, there’s still time to register to compete in select events. Now is the time to invest in your health and wellbeing, while also taking advantage of some excellent competition in Pittsburgh.”
Interested athletes can sign up to compete in 18 different sports. The deadline to register for the Games is Tuesday, May 2. The maximum number of registrants will be limited for certain sports. “As Pittsburghers, we’re so fortunate to have so many different, unique opportunities to compete, both for ourselves and for those who stand to benefit from our actions,” Bachar added. “I’m encouraged to see such positive reception for the events hosted in our region.”
Bachar also will participate in the inaugural Rush to Crush Cancer Benefitting UPMC Hillman Cancer Center next month, cycling the 40-mile route.
Volunteers are still needed to support the Games this summer, as more than 10,000 athletes are anticipated to descend on Pittsburgh. Those interested in volunteering can find more information and register for various available roles at nsga.com/volunteer/.
