On September 8, 2024, Challenge Family notes that triathletes will be taking part in three very different events – from North America through to Asia.

The event organiser notes that these events are…. ‘surrounded by three diverse cultures on opposite sides of the world, but united by Challenge Family.

‘Canada, China and Uzbekistan will host thousands of age group athletes, together with some of the biggest names in the sport, and a hefty prize purse.’

The inaugural Challenge Beijing in China, raced over the non-drafting standard (Olympic) distance, has attracted some of the biggest names in the sport, including world #2, Kyle Smith (NZL) and Olympic silver medallist, Julie Derron (SUI). The event will feature a prize purse of US$100,000. In addition, over 1,000 age group athletes will compete at the home of the 2022 Winter Olympics, enjoying Chinese culture and the nearby Badaling Great Wall.

Uzbekistan has captured the imagination of two of the sport’s most recognisable names, Norwegians Gustav Iden and Kristian Blummenfelt, among others, who will race the Old Silk Road through centuries of history at Challenge Samarkand.

This UNESCO World Heritage Area features historic Islamic architecture spanning thousands of years that is an integral part of the middle distance course. Samarkand is one of the ancient cities of the world and an important Silk Road hub, rich in architectural structures, original culture and incredible heritage.

Finally, over 3,500 age group athletes will celebrate 40 years of triathlon at SAIL Challenge Esprit Montréal. Known for its flat, fast course, SAIL Challenge Esprit Montréal will feature four distances held in the city’s Olympic Basin and on the F1 Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
