The 51st annual George Holliday Memorial Junior Tournament, which will be played November 28-30 on Myrtle Beach National’s three acclaimed courses, is now accepting entries.
One of the Carolinas premier junior events, the George Holliday Memorial Junior Tournament counts current PGA and LPGA players Lucas Glover, D.J. Trahan and Kristy McPherson among its past participants.
The 54-hole tournament will be played on three Arnold Palmer designs - King’s North, the West Course and SouthCreek - at Myrtle Beach National over the Thanksgiving holiday. The event is open to junior golfers who are 18 years of age or younger as of November 28, 2019.
“Hosting the George Holliday Memorial Junior Tournament is always one of the highlights of the year for us,” said Ryan Ruddy, head golf professional at Myrtle Beach National. “We love the opportunity to host golf’s next generation of stars and the three courses at Myrtle Beach National provide a great test.”
The competition divisions are boys ages 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18 years of age. There are three age brackets in the girls’ division: 10-12, 13-14, and 15-18 years of age.
Golfers are encouraged to register early as the field of 160 players is expected to fill quickly.
In 2018, Carlos Garre, a Wofford University signee, and Anna Grace Brock, a UNC Greensboro signee, won the boys and girls crowns.
Entry into the event is $185 and includes a welcome gift, lunch and range balls on tournament days.
George Holliday was a successful junior and collegiate golfer who was tragically killed in a 1967 automobile accident at the age of 22. The Galivants Ferry, S.C. native believed that his experience as a junior golfer was paramount in molding him into the fine young man he became. His family created the tournament to give junior golfers an opportunity to compete in a high-caliber tournament setting.
