Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) welcomes players from 10 countries - an event record – to the PTR Wheelchair Tennis Championships.  This year for the first time, Israel and Taiwan Federations will be represented, and Brazil Federation is sending seven players and three coaches!  Additionally, Australia, Canada, Chile, England, France, Japan and, of course, the USA will be represented in the prize money tournament.

“We’re excited to have a record number of women in the Open and A divisions this year,” said Julie Jilly, Tournament Director and Vice president of PTR.  “The University of Alabama wheelchair tennis team will be competing too!”

Most of the world’s top players, as well as all levels, including first time players, have competed in this event, which is part of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF).  ITF named this event one of only seven Grade A Junior Tournaments in the world.

Tennis is the only integrated sport; one in which an able-bodied player can compete against a wheelchair athlete, or have both able-bodied and wheelchair on the same team for doubles!

PTR Wheelchair Championships will be held on Hilton Head Island, SC, September 21-24.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,000 members in 125 countries.  It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization.  PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and serving tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
