Long one of the Myrtle Beach area’s best and most acclaimed layouts, Tidewater Golf Club, which is celebrating its 25th birthday this year, has never been better.
A top 100-caliber public course, Tidewater underwent an extensive renovation project in 2014 – installing new miniverde greens and expanding every fairway, among other upgrades – and the results have been spectacular.
The course’s new greens are in ideal condition less than nine months after installation, leaving golfers raving about the “new” Tidewater.
“The course is set in a beautiful estate that borders the coastal waterways. We were warmly greeted by the staff and the starter was a pleasure to chat with … The course was in great shape,” a Trip Advisor reviewer from the UK, who gave the course 5 stars, wrote.
“The course was in AMAZING shape! Affordable and one of the best layouts in MB area. I will play there every time I come to the Beach,” another 5-star Trip Advisor reviewer wrote.
The gushing reviews don’t come as a surprise given the success of the renovation and the quality and beauty of the layout. Tidewater has eight holes that play along the marshy waters of the Intracoastal Waterway or Cherry Grove.
One could make a compelling argument that individually holes 3, 4, 12 or 13 is the Myrtle Beach area’s prettiest. Three and 12 are par 3s that play parallel to each other, with each bringing the stunning waters of Cherry Grove into play.
The fourth hole is a dazzling par 4 with a gentle dogleg left that requires a dramatic approach over cavernous bunkers with Cherry Grove lurking in the background. The 13th, a par 5, is Tidewater signature hole. Cherry Grove comes into play from tee to green and golfers enjoy a distant view of the Atlantic Ocean from an undulating green.
Tidewater’s inland holes offer enjoyable variety, anchored by a mixture of long and short par 4s.
The combination of the property’s native beauty and the course’s architectural quality have long made Tidewater a favorite.
Upon its 1990 opening, Tidewater was the first course ever named best new course in America by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine and both publications have also ranked the layout among the nation’s top 100 public courses.
Twenty-five years later, Tidewater Golf Club is better than it has ever been.
